Avalanche Skills Training

We have been avalanche educators since 1999, providing Avalanche Canada’s Avalanche Skills Training courses. We have helped hundreds of backcountry enthusiasts learn how to be safe in avalanche terrain.

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST1) courses are introductory level and are open to skiers, boarders and those traveling on snowshoes.

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 (AST2) course is intended for those who already have developed some avalanche safety skills and are looking to take their training to the next level.

A popular option is our private avalanche safety tutoring. Hire an ACMG guide and avalanche professional for a day or two of customized training, focusing on whatever you want to work on to improve your avalanche and backcountry skills.

Avalanche Skills Training Level 2

New for winter 2024 Private Group AST 2

New for winter 2024 we will focus on private group AST2 delivery.

It’s more fun to do your avalanche training with people you know. You know their personality, fitness level and riding ability.

To get the most out of your AST2 training you need to be immersed in avalanche terrain all day long for the duration of the course. That means that long daily drives coupled with long uptracks below treeline doesn’t leave enough daylight to cover what needs to get done in the curriculum.

Get your friends together, book 3 nights at a local mountain hut, (Red Mtn., Farm, Ozalenka) and we will work out a price for you.

The course is delivered over 5 days. The course begins with a one day classroom day in town. The next 4 days are out in the mountains, learning, riding and having fun.

Custom Private Instruction

Once you have some training under your belt, one of the best ways to improve your avalanche safety skills is to continue your learning under the tutorship of an avalanche professional.

Think about what skills you need to improve to get the most out of your time in the backcountry.

Perhaps you want to focus on snowpack assessments, or terrain selection, or improve your rescue skills. Private training is a great way to maximize your learning either one on one or with a small group of your friends.
